Talis is a member of significant trade and industry bodies within the IT and library communities.

Talis continues to be an active supporter of standards in the library and information industry and our membership provides us access to shape future standards.

NISO logo

The National Information Standards Organization, a non-profit association accredited by the American National Standards Institute ( ANSI ), identifies, develops, maintains, and publishes technical standards to manage information in our changing and ever-more digital environment.

W3C logo

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) develops interoperable technologies (specifications, guidelines, software, and tools) to lead the Web to its full potential. W3C is a forum for information, commerce, communication, and collective understanding.

Unicode Globe

The Unicode Consortium is a non-profit organization originally founded to develop, extend and promote use of the Unicode Standard, which specifies the representation of text in modern software products and standards. The Unicode Consortium actively develops standards in the area of internationalization including defining the behavior and relationships between Unicode characters. The Consortium cooperates with W3C and ISO.

CILIP

 

CILIP is the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals, a new professional body formed following the unification of the Institute of Information Scientists (IIS) and the Library Association (LA). Talis is a member of the CILIP Suppliers Network.

The UK Serials Group (UKSG) exists to encourage the exchange of ideas on printed and electronic serials and the process of scholarly communication. Talis is a corporate member of UKSG.

NAG logo

National Acquisitions Group exists to create and encourage dialogue and improvements for all involved in the acquisition process. Members include organisations in publishing, bookselling and library systems supply as well as librarians in academic, public, national, special and government institutions. Talis is a corporate member of NAG.

Talis is a corporate member of The Forum for Interlending and Information Delivery, an organisation for interlending and document supply personnel.

Book Industry Communication logo

The Book Industry Communication, set up and sponsored by The Publishers Association, The Booksellers Association, The Library Association and The British Library, develops and promotes standards for electronic commerce and communication in the book and serials industry.

TALES, The Association of Library Equipment Suppliers, was formed in 1981 to represent the interests of companies dedicated to supplying the library and information sector.

GS1

 

GS1 is the UK authority on cross sector supply chain standards. They maintain
the EAN.UCC standards covering the following four key supply chain technologies:

  • Bar coding
  • Electronic business messaging
  • Radio frequency identification
  • Data synchronisation
  • Talis is a member of e-centre and uses these standards to help libraries achieve efficiencies in their business.
