Alan Masson

Dr Alan Masson

Assistant Director of the Institute of Lifelong Learning, University of Ulster

Alan is the Assistant Director of the Institute of Lifelong Learning at the University of Ulster. His current duties include the design, co-ordination and management of e-learning related systems such as the institutional deployment of WebCT and the integration of VLE and library services and systems. He is Director of the Centre for Institutional E-Learning Services to support teaching and learning, an NI recognised area of excellence and part of the national CETL network. Alan was responsible for the co-ordination of the University's £2.1 million ODL capital expenditure initiative which established the necessary technical infrastructure for a mission critical e-learning implementation and implemented a fully integrated MLE / VLE. He was also central to the development of the JISC funded Northern Ireland Integrated MLE project and the DiVLE funded 4i Project.  

Rachel Hill

Rachel Hill

DORAS Institutional Repository Manager, Dublin City University

 

Rachel Hill is Manager of DORAS - the Institutional Repository (IR) at Dublin City University. She is heavily involved in the IReL-Open initiative - a 3 year Irish Universities Association project that is establishing IRs in Irish universities and a national portal that will act as a showcase of Irish research. She is a member of the IReL-Open working group and the IReL-Open metadata group.

She completed a Master of Library and Information Studies in 2007 with her dissertation focusing on how Irish university IRs can ensure that they are providing quality, shareable metadata for the IReL-Open national portal.

Michael Kelly

Michael Kelly was Secretary General of the Department of Health and Children from January 2000 to March 2005. During that period he played a leading role in the reform of the health service, including the preparation of the current health strategy "Quality and Fairness", the policy groundwork for much of the on-going reform programme and the re-structuring of the health system, leading to the establishment of the Health Service Executive. He has also played a prominent role in leading reform in the civil service, particularly in performance management.

Trevor Lyttle

Trevor Lyttle

Assistant Director, Resources Management at Queen's University Belfast

Trevor has worked at QUB since 1985 and formerly in University of Ulster and Public Libraries. His current role includes Library Technical Services and the Talis system.  Another is financial control for Information Services as a whole including budgeting, audit and the interaction with the University’s finance system. Other responsibilities at QUB have included responsibility for the Medical Library and the service to NHS staff throughout Northern Ireland.

Paul Miller

Technology Evangelist at Talis

Paul joined Talis in September 2005 from the Common Information Environment (CIE), where as Director he was instrumental in scoping policy and attracting new members such as the BBC, National Library of Scotland and English Heritage to this group of UK public sector organisations. Previously, Paul was at UKOLN where he was active in a range of cross-domain standardisation and advocacy activities, and prior to this he was Collections Manager at the Archaeology Data Service. At Talis, Paul is exploring new models of collaboration and identifying further areas in which our technology or knowledge would be of value. Paul has a Doctorate in Archaeology from the University of York.Karen Reece

Karen Reece

Karen has worked in her present role at Talis since 2003. Previously Karen worked in a number of roles within the library service at the University of Salford, before moving to a position at Talkingtech, a Talis partner organisation who jointly developed Talis Message. Karen has over ten years experience in the library environment and has a BA (Hons) in Literature and History and a MSc in Information Management.
