If a borrower has multiple addresses, one must be set as the default address used for correspondence.
If you have not already done so, display the required borrower.
Click the Record tab.
Enter an Address Name.
If your library subscribes to the Talis Postcodes
Database Service, type the postcode (or partial postcode) in the Postcode field and click the adjacent
Find Address button.
The address details are automatically added to the record. Note that
you can enter the following combinations:
Full postcode (e.g. B38OAF, WV124RU)
Partial postcode (e.g. B3, B38, B38 O, B38OA)
The property number followed by the full/partial postcode. Separate the two entities using a comma (e.g. 5,B380AF)
The property name number followed by the full/partial postcode (e.g. Dunroamin, B17 6ND). Using this method the property name is included in the first line of the address.
Property identifier and partial postcode (e.g. 12 Hilton Croft, B38)
If necessary, complete or amend the address details, and add the address Telephone number and/or Extension.
Enter optional Start
Date and End Dates for
this address.
If a borrower has more than one address defined, Talis Alto will use
these fields to determine which address should be used as the 'current'
address (for example, term and vacation addresses).
If required, enter the Source used to confirm the address (i.e. 'Utility bill') and an optional Address Note and click Save.
Tip
Ask the borrower for their residence name or number before searching. Using this method, a typical search would therefore read 'Dunroamin, B17 6ND'. This would return the full address with the house name in the first address field.
From the Record form, click the Add
Address button.
The Add Address pop-up form is displayed.
Enter a new Address Name, and click Continue.
Complete the details for the new address, as described above. Note that:
Once you have defined more than one address, you can set the Default Address option against the required address. This is the address to which correspondence will be sent, and which is initially displayed on the Record tab (unless the current address falls within the start and end date range).
If a borrower has multiple addresses, one must be set as the default or current address used for correspondence.
You can change between addresses by clicking the Addresses drop-down button.
The 'current' address, as defined by the start and end dates, will take priority over the default address if different.
When the ranges between start and end dates
overlap for two or more addresses, the system selects the narrower of
two current date ranges as defining the current address for the borrower
(example
).
Students in an academic library will normally have a term time address and a home address. The term time address occupies the narrower time band and is given priority during the term, but outside of term time the home address is given preference.
Click Save.
