Talis Alto's Issue, Discharge and Renew screens are split into consistent sections to allow you to easily switch between loan handling functions.
From the Circulation menu, select the Issue, Renew or Discharge option to go to the appropriate screen.
From within any screen, click the Go To Issue, Go To Renew or Go To Discharge buttons to instantly access the other screens. If your system has been configured to do so, you can click the Receipt button to print a receipt of any loan charges.
Alternatively, click the
appropriate function key (F3,
F4 or F5).
The following diagram shows an Issue screen. The layout is identical
for Issue, Renew and Discharge screens. Note that if you have added
a borrower photograph to registered borrowers this is displayed in
the Borrower Information section.

Click the borrower tabs at the top of the screen to access the borrower's details. For example, click the Loans tab to display all the items currently on loan to the selected borrower. From here you can renew items on loan, and also access the loan details.
When issuing items, you must identify the borrower before loaning material. Borrower barcodes that are 'wanded' in will appear in the field at the top of the screen. Alternatively, you can type the borrower barcode directly into the field. If you don't know the barcode (for instance, if the borrower has forgotten their card), you can click the adjacent Find button search for and identify the borrower.
When discharging or renewing items, item barcodes that are wanded in will appear in the field at the top of the screen. Alternatively, you can type the item barcode directly into the field. When discharging or renewing items, you do not need to enter the borrower barcode.
The main grid area is updated each time you issue, discharge, or renew books. The list includes:
The Barcode and Description of the item.
The item Type, which is used to determine the period of time which an item can be on loan to the current category of borrower.
The Action performed (for example, 'Issued', 'Discharged', 'Not issued', 'Renewed' etc.).
The Due
Date by which time the item must
be returned. For discharge screens, this will be the date the item is
discharged.
Note that manual due dates (and manual discharge dates) can be specified
at the bottom of the form; in both cases this will override the system
defined due/discharge dates.
The Borrower Information section displays loan and general information about the selected borrower. If required, this can be checked before an item is issued. Similarly, when an item is renewed or discharged, the associated borrower's details are displayed. The area includes:
The Name, Type, Expiry date and Barcode of the selected borrower.
The Type Loans count, which is updated as items are issued, renewed, and discharged. It shows how many items (of the current loan type) the borrower has on loan against the number of loans of this type they are allowed.
The Total Loans currently on loan, measured against the maximum number of loans (of whatever loan type) that the borrower is permitted.
The Accumulator Summary displays a total of the charges payable by borrowers when items are discharged, issued or renewed. The Borrower name and Barcode is listed, with the total number of items and amount due across all borrowers is also displayed. You can use the accumulator summary to defer a borrower's payments, or pay all (or some) of the amounts due.
