2008 Semantic Technology Conference

San Jose, California 18-22 May 2008

Widely recognised as the world's foremost symposium on the commercialisation of semantic technologies, Talis is delighted to announce its support for this year's Semantic Technology Conference in San Jose, California. The event, which takes place from 18-22 May, gathers an impressive programme of speakers from across the semantic technology space, and promises to illustrate the many ways in which semantic technologies are already at work within the enterprise.

Talis staff will be involved before and during the event in various ways, beginning with a set of podcast interviews with a number of high profile speakers. On Wednesday May 21st, Talis CEO Dave Errington will participate in a panel of senior executives including Nova Spivack (Radar Networks) and Alex Iskold (Adaptive Blue). During the main conference programme, our CTO Ian Davis will present Talis' perspective on 'The Semantic Web as a Blue Ocean Opportunity'. In a half-day workshop entitled 'Developing Semantic Web Applications with the Talis Platform', Danny Ayers and Ian Davis will demonstrate the ease with which developers can engage with semantic technologies. This year's premier European conference brings together the worlds of web development, open source, Web 2.0 and open standards. The 2008 conference will be held in Dublin at the Radisson SAS Royal Hotel from 6th - 9th May.

Ian Davis, Chief Technology Officer at Talis will present on the creation and ongoing evolution of a RESTful API. His presentation will focus on the design of API URLs, versioning strategies and techniques for preserving backwards compatibility, using real examples from The Talis Platform API. More information.

WWW2008

At this year’s Semantic Web session at WWW2008, together with W3C director Tim Berners-Lee and Chris Bizer from Free University Berlin, Talis' Tom Heath will be talking about Linking Open Data in this afternoon session chaired by Ivan Herman (W3C).

Rob Styles, Danny Ayers and Nadeem Shabir will be delivering a paper entitled ‘Semantic MARC, MARC21 and the Semantic Web’ describing the development work at Talis to realise the value of the Semantic Web technologies in a library context. Paul Miller and Rob Styles will be presenting a session on ‘Open Data Commons, a license for open data’ and Chris Clarke will also be delivering a paper within the developer track at the conference. BlogTalk 2008

Ireland 3-4 March 2008

Talis Technology Evangelist Paul Miller recently presented at BlogTalk. The event, which ran from 3-4 March 2008 this year was held in the Irish city of Cork.

Paul's paper, "Realising potential in the Web of Relationships," was part of a diverse programme that also included a Keynote from Talis Platform Advisory Group member Nova Spivack.

SemanticCamp

London, 16-17 February 2008

Talis is pleased to join the BBC, OpenLink Software and Osmosoft in sponsoring next month's SemanticCamp at Imperial College, London.

SemanticCamp London is an unconference on the Semantic Web and related technologies that takes place in London on February 16th and 17th 2008 at Imperial College's Department of Computing.

SemanticCamp London is organised by Tom Morris and Daniel John Lewis, and follows the increasingly popular 'barcamp' format for events, with the traditional formal programme of presentations replaced by participants suggesting and democratically selecting topics that they would like to see discussed.

Talis CTO Ian Davis will be amongst those attending SemanticCamp London, where he will be available to demonstrate some of the latest developments on the Talis Platform.

XTech 2007

Paris, 15-18 May 2007

Talis is sponsoring XTech 2007- the premier European conference for developers, information designers and managers working with web and standards-based technologies. XTech brings together the worlds of web development, open source, semantic web and open standards. The theme for this year's conference is "The Ubiquitous Web". As the web reaches further into our lives, we will consider the increasing ubiquity of connectivity, what it means for real world objects to connect to the web, and the increasing blurring of the lines between virtual worlds and our own.

Paul Miller, Technology Evangelist, will be delivering a presentation on 17 May entitled 'Opening the Silos: sustainable models for open data' and Ian Davis from Talis will also be presenting a session entitled 'RSS Remixing' on the second day of the conference. More information

WWW2007

Banff, Canada 8-12 May 2007

Paul Miller coordinated a panel at this year's World Wide Web conference, in the Canadian town of Banff from 8-12 May. The panel, Building a Semantic Web in Which Our Data Can Participate addressed the need for Open Data in delivering the Semantic Web, with contributions from Talis' Ian Davis, Peter Murray-Rust from the University of Cambridge, Steve Coast from Open Streetmap and Jamie Taylor from Metaweb.
