RLG joins Talis Developer Network and becomes the first global partner for the Talis Platform
29 November, 2005
Talis, the leading provider of library management solutions for the UK and Ireland, is delighted to announce details of this successful collaboration with the Research Libraries Group (RLG).
The Talis Directory Service is a component of the new Talis Library Platform, developed in collaboration with RLG for use with their RedLightGreen service; an online database of bibliographic descriptions available to everyone. The project, designed to make accessing books easier, allows users of RedLightGreen to link directly to detailed bibliographic information from any Talis customer. Talis and RLG are working closely to further extend the use of Talis’ Directory Service to provide current and accurate data on all libraries listed in RedLightGreen.
Talking with Talis – Paul Miller launches the first Talis Podcast
1 November, 2005
Paul Miller, Talis’ Technology Evangelist has now launched the first in a series of planned podcasts online. Through the ‘Talking with Talis’ podcast initiative, Paul Miller will podcast a set of programmes relevant to the space we inhabit; the intersection between libraries and information science on the one hand, and the world of Web 2.0 on the other. Dick Hardt, Founder and CEO of sxip Identity, gave one of the most talked about presentations at the recent Web 2.0 Conference in San Francisco, where the combination of style and substance proved engaging. To explore this further, the first Talis podcast titled, ‘Dick Hardt on Identity 2.0’ presents a 40 minute conversation about Identity 2.0, and the ways in which personal identity might be better managed in the online environment.
Dr Paul Miller joins Talis from the Common Information Environment (CIE)
12 October, 2005
Talis is delighted to announce that Dr Paul Miller has joined its Senior Management Team as Technology Evangelist.
Paul joins Talis from the Common Information Environment (CIE), where as Director he was instrumental in scoping policy and attracting new members such as the BBC, National Library of Scotland and English Heritage to this group of UK public sector organisations. At Talis, Paul is exploring new models of collaboration and identifying further areas in which Talis’ technology or knowledge will be of value.
When asked why he decided to join Talis, Paul commented "Talis really grasps the fundamental changes required in our sector if it is to hold its own effectively in a world that includes Amazon, Google, and an increasingly participative population."
Miller went on to say “Talis have the skills and technologies to deliver many of the objectives towards which I have been working for many years, and I look forward to helping realise the Vision along with my new colleagues at Talis and the wider community with whom we must increasingly engage."
Talis Developer Network welcomes its 100th member
12 July, 2005
The Talis Developer Network (TDN), Talis’ community of customers and partners, is expanding fast with the number of members now totalling 100 and still growing. The TDN was created last year as a knowledge base where members could share technical ‘assets’ from ‘how to’ explanations to documentation, scripts, APIs and full-blown open source applications. The TDN also acts as a forum where members can swap technical know-how and experience.
For customers, the TDN community offers the chance to stay up-to-date with Talis’ technical developments and tools as well as sharing the experiences of other customers and benefiting from the product customisation that some customers undertake.
For partners, the TDN underpins Talis Additions, Talis’ partnership programme, to provide the APIs, certification and support required to integrate products into a best-of-breed solution. Customers know that if they choose a solution from an accredited Talis Additions partner, they can be confident that the integration between complementary products will be maintained.
Currently, membership of the TDN is free for Talis customers while partner organisations that join within the TDN’s first year do not have to pay the usual annual membership fee. For details on how to join the Talis Developer Network, please visit www.talis.com/tdn
