Reservations in Talis Alto are always placed against a work, and all items that are reservable for that work will be reserved. Note that:
By default, you cannot place a reservation on an item which is the subject of an item query.
You can reserve multiple works (as detailed in section 5b below).
From the Circulation
menu select Reservation.
The Reservation screen is displayed.
Enter the Borrower
Barcode of the borrower who the reservation is for.
If you do not know the barcode, click the adjacent '
'
button and search for the required
borrower.
Enter either the Bib
ID of the work you wish to reserve, or a Standard Identifier for
the work.
If you don’t know either the Bib ID or the Standard Identifier, click
the Bib. Search button to search
for one.
Click the Add
New button.
A tab
representing the new borrower reservation is added to form. The top half
reservation displays the ISBD Work
details and Borrower Details.
Complete the reservation accordingly:
If the
reservation is for a single work, complete the Reservation form, as described
in the following drop down section:
Completing the reservation form
The Works Reserved
field shows the number of the works reserved for this reservation. Click
the adjacent
button to view the work details and to optionally
specify additional works
to be included in this reservation.
The Items Reserved indicates the number of items which are currently reserved as a means of satisfying the reservation. This is calculated automatically using the reservation Filter, set up by your System Manager.
If no copies are reserved using the default filter, you can select an alternative one from the Filter drop-down button. The Items Reserved field is automatically updated.
Click the Items
Reserved '
' button to view the reserved items, and
to unreserve items if required. From
the reserved items pop up form note that you can also access the Loan History for the item.
Enter the Collection
Site from which the borrower will collect the work.
The Request Site shows the
site (if any) where a request for this item is currently being processed.
For more information on item request, click here.
If you wish to specify a future date when the reservation becomes active (for example, for users who do not require their item until a particular date), enter a date and time in the Effective Date.
Note that the Status will remain at 'Not yet effective' until the Effective Date is reached, at which point it will become 'Active'.
The Status and the Date at which this was modified are derived from Talis Alto.
The Items Recall field is also derived from Talis Alto, being the number of items for this reservation that have been flagged for recall from the borrower.
The Charged field is calculated automatically and displays the amount levied for a reservation. The Date Created and Created by fields are also completed automatically.
Your System Manager may allow you to set the Priority of the reservation, which will determine the relative urgency of each reservation for a given work compared with all other "competing" reservations.
The Priority field will accept values in the range 1 to 9, where a lower number indicates a higher priority.
All new reservations are given a default priority level of 5. Assigning a reservation a priority of 1 will move that reservation to the top of the queue.
If all reservations have the same priority, then the reservations queue is always in chronological order.
When a reservation is placed in transit, the date
this occurred is displayed in the In Transit form. You can click the adjacent
button to display the transit
details.
If you wish to reserve more than one version of the work, refer to the topic 'Making a multi-work reservation'.
Click Save.
From the Circulation
menu select Reservation.

Enter the Borrower
Barcode of the borrower who the reservation is for.
If you do not know the barcode, click the adjacent '
'
button and search for the required
borrower.
Enter the Item Barcode.

New button.

representing the new borrower reservation is added to form.
