Mashing Up The Library competition
If you didn't win, don't worry - Mashing up the Library continues from today
For all those users of libraries who have ever wished they could bring information from their library to life outside the virtual walls of its web site. For all those librarians who have contemplated enriching their OPAC with maps, reviews, jacket images, or folksonomies. For all of you, and for anyone else who has harboured a yearning to see information from or about libraries put to best use and displayed to best effect alongside information or services from other sources, we bring you the Mashing Up The Library competition.
This is your chance to wow the world with your ideas; your chance to build better systems on top of library data; your chance to demonstrate the value and the power of libraries; your chance to take library information and display it in exciting new ways; and your chance to walk away with a range of prizes.
To enter, simply produce your functional demonstration and then blog about it, appending the Technorati tag MUTL06 to your post. Then send an email to MUTL@talis.com, pointing to your entry and submit a forum entry here.
If you have a great idea, but feel that you lack the skills to execute your vision, why not post it here and invite partners to work with you on making it reality in return for a share of the prize?
We encourage all entrants to publicise their efforts on the general competition forum, here. Further, we encourage all entrants to share their work under a flexible and permissive licence in order that others may build upon what they have done. Entrants who do not wish to do so are not prevented from entering, and may receive recognition for their effort. However, winners of the first and second prizes will be expected to deposit a copy of their work with the TDN, licensed under a licence such as the GPL in order that the whole community may benefit.
To find out more, view a list of suggested sources for web services and other mash up raw materials here, read about the first set of winners here, view the list of evaluation criteria here, view the small print here, visit the Ideas forum here, the general competition forum here, or the Entries forum here.
Good Luck to all of you, and I look forward to being wowed by your entries!
And don't forget to tag Flickr images, blog conversations, del.icio.us resource lists and more with MUTL06, so that everyone can follow along...
