Jason,

Thanks for the comment. I, too, look forward to finding out more, and to seeing similar moves from the other vendors.

New perceptions

I am pleased by these moves on the part of Ex Libris. I believe they do have substance. We will soon see. The people from Ex Libris have been pretty active on the ELUNA listserv during the past week. They have tried to answer questions regarding Primo as they surfaced, and as you noted, they have responded to the blog traffic. The fact that they are responding to blog traffic suggests to me that they "get it." The fact that they have been willing to share information about a product that seemed to be a mystery wrapped in an enigma just three weeks ago is also heartening. I think I first read about Primo in a column Marshall Breeding wrote for Smart Libraries. I had a vague idea of what they might be doing. Then I talked to the Ex Libris folks at CIL2006 about Primo. I saw some screen shots and asked a few questions, but I was still pretty unclear about what exactly the product was. This past week, several people began posting questions on the ELUNA listserv and I asked some questions on my blog. Since then, the folks at Ex Libris have been great about talking about this product, and in the coming weeks, current Ex Libris customers will be able to find out more about primo. I would like to see the company continue to increase the openness they have displayed for the past week.

They also displayed very Library 2.0 behaviour by responding promptly and engagingly to comments posted about this on various blogs. What do you think about this move on their part, and is there evidence of other vendors following suit?
