Borrowers taking out more than 1 copy

Hello
Library staff have been noticing that borrowers are taking out more than 1 copy of a book for friends. If they come to the counter the staff dissuade them from doing this. However as we are pushing self service they can take multiple copies of the same item using the machines. Is there a way of stopping borrowers from taking more than 1 copy of an item?

There is not currently any functionality in self service to prevent a borrower taking out more than one copy of an item.
While such functionality can be considered for development there would need to be more investigation. Preventing a borrower taking out more than one item attached to the same WORK_ID is one thing but it gets more complicated where the items may appear to be the same but are actually under different WORK_IDs e.g. paperback/hardback or different editions.
What criteria do your counter staff use to decide?
