Direct Data Transfer between Talis Servers
At a the recent iTug event in Edinburgh, I mentioned the fact that we at Gateshead were still doing data transfer from the Talis server to the MIS server by tape. This seemed primitive to me and, as both servers are on the same network, unnecessary. I know we will still need tapes for backups, but having to use them daily for these transfers is clumsy. I asked where to find information on doing a direct transfer and Mark Summers pointed me to the Talis Developer Network.
However, doing a search for "full_dbrestore" or "transfer data Talis MIS" gives no results. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
At the risk of showing my ignorance, I know that, on MS-DOS/Windows systems, there are occasions (permissions allowing) where you can just use the COPY command to copy files from one server to another, without using FTP. Is this also the case in Solaris, or would we always have to use FTP?
Thanks in advance for any help.
