Long overdue items

Could anyone help with this? We currently have the loa_long_odue script set up to run nightly to amend the status of items that are 9 weeks overdue to long overdue. I have been asked to check on the effectiveness of this by pulling out the number of items that have become long overdue in the last year and how many of these have been returned. I can't pull out previous loan status and am stumped as to how to achieve this.
