Today most institutions use a multitude of systems. Each of these has improved research and education, but far more can still be achieved by going beyond current system silos. Reorganising the student or academic experience around individuals, rather than systems, brings the resources of the institution to their finger tips in a way that is both natural yet powerful. The technology to make this real already exists, how institutions put it in to practice is the challenge.
Project Xiphos
Through Project Xiphos, Talis is exploring the impact of applying the latest Web scale technologies, including Web 2.0 and the Semantic Web, to the challenges of education and research in Higher Education institutions today. Technology is rarely the whole solution to anything, especially in the complex world of Higher Education, yet it is without doubt that technology advancement unlocks major benefits for those willing to experiment and try a different way.
